In the research stages of our film, we mainly used the internet, search engines such as google provided us with information such as predictions of the weather so we could plan our filming, we also used websites like Youtube a lot in order to both provide each other with examples which we could use for our filming as well as a source of inspiration.
We used a Panasonic SDR camera in order to shoot all our raw footage, the camera was provided by the media department and very simple to use as all its buttons were clearly marked, and then we edited all the footage that we had shot on Addobe Premier Elements 2, I had personally edited two other films using this editing suite before and Ahmed had one so we were both quite experienced at using the software.
Independently of the classroom Ahmed used a software programme that he had on his laptop called Visionlabs which he used to create the muzzle flash effect which made it seem that Josh was actually firing a gun.
We also used blogger, a blogging website in order to document and keep track of our progress. I personally like blogger because it is a lot easier than writing a lot of essays or keeping an actual diary, there is very little need to put in effort to organise it, as the computer does that for us, however I don’t really like posting videos of myself on there.
When we had our finished product we used Youtube to upload the footage of our video and get feedback from the general population of youtube.

Youtube Views By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
We currently have 35 views on youtube!
not actually very important in the grand scheme of things but the fact that people are watching it makes me happy!
It would be better if I wasn't telling half the people to look it up and check it out myself!!! :(

Movie Poster By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
By all rights I should be writing absolutely nothing about this as I have very little discearnable talent when it comes to photoshop, however I have been taking pictures for the poster in its first stage, and I wanted to make an update on what I've been doing, so I cannot be accused of leaving all of this work to Ahmed.
I have been working as the photographer for the group, we only have a basic digital camera but I took the picture of Josh that we used for the magazine cover and I have also taken the first batch of pictures of Josh and Cameron in the alley where he gets taken. However since Ahmed and I failed to communicate properly on exactly what we wanted from these pictures I had an idea in my head and Ahmed had a different one, so I will be shooting again later this week, hopefully this time I will get some really good shots. I am also going to work on the vlog which comes as the next part of our task, I have been planning that in my head. I have also gone on the internet to seek inspiration from "vlog celebrities" such as Nerimon and Charlieissocoollike and Raywilliamjohnson all of which have been very helpful in the planning, we have also looked at the vlog of Vixen productions, from last year who did the "voodoo child" video and come reccommended as work to aspire to from the exam board.
That's my update done for now

Trailer Nearing Completion By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
Ahmed and I have edited the shooting scene which was set to appear at the end of the trailer, so that two shots of Josh shooting appear between production companies we have used, this makes the trailer less linear than previously, but with the insertion of voiceover and music the trailer is now looking really good. We only need to come up with a few more title shots and we are pretty much finished, we also have to find a different music track to use in the second part of our trailer, because the track we have at the moment is ok for the first half but then it seems to turn into something reminiscent of the Power Rangers theme tune.

First Post After Christmas By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
Ahmed and I have come back after the holidays and are nearing the deadline for our coursework. Fortunately with the addition of a small scene that we shot at supper last night the trailer is looking much better than previously. We are almost ready in fact.
We have added production company logo's and we believe we have found a suitable piece of guitar music to play in the background of the beginning of the trailer.
Tonight I hope to film a small additional scene with Cameron making a phone call to Josh right before he is kidnapped.
Hopefully by tomorrow we will be nearing the finishing stages of our coursework.

First Stage of filming/editing process By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
Here is the work from the first attempt of filming in the old drama department. Unfortunately I am unfamiliar with the place and therefore could not find the lighting kit that Ahmed had reserved for us and he wasn't there so we filmed in an environment that was too dark; so the shots had to be brightened in order to see anything and as a result the picture quality was reduced.
We will return to film the same sequence later this week because the choreographing is actually very good, it's just unfortunate that things havent worked out the first time round.

Shooting Session Planned By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
Tonight, assuming all goes well Ahmed and I are planning to shoot some of the video in the Ogstoun Drama Studios. We are still in the process of asking for permission from Mister Williams, however Ahmed is doing that right now. Unfortunately I will not be there at the start of the filming, as I am going to be filming a demonstration by the Gordonstoun Fire Service, so I will only arrive at the studios at 8 o'clock, however I am confident in Ahmed's ability to get the shots we need in the meantime, hopefully we will get most of what we need after this night.

Rocknrolla Inspiration By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
I respect Guy Ritchie as a film maker, and although I am not an incredible fan of his films I have discovered a little montage of shots which is used to convey a chain of conversation between different people much more quickly than it otherwise would. The shot comes from the first five minutes of Rocknrolla, and I think it its a really good idea.

Change of Main Actors By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
Our actor who was going to play Orcy has had an acciedent, he has gone over his handlebars of his bike and landed on his face so he will be unable to play the main character. I have currently asked Gabriel, the guy who was going to play Josh and Orcy's chief, if he would like to upgrade to a main part. I have asked him y email and am currently waiting upon a response.

Title of the Film By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
After playing about with words for a few lessons and coming up with a few dead ends I finally came up with Vigalantes as a title. It seemed short and sweet and also to directly portray the purpose and idea of what the film would be about. While it is not the most remarkable title on in the world it seems to work and upon asking the class members individually I got a unanimous response.

Shooting Script By Jamie Paxton Candidate Number 5955
The shots that the storyboard depicts us needing are the bare essential shots that I could construct to dislpaly the storyline and not fall behind.
1) Our film trailer will start with an establishing, long shot of Josh leaving his workplace, Josh's shirt at this point will be white, as a symbol of purity and goodness, showing that Josh is clearly a good guy.
2) There will also be several shots from different angles, probably at a mid-shot level zoom, displaying Josh and Graham sitting in what we are going to be using to film Josh's lounge but is in fact the upper 6th com, the mid-shot level of the zooms will bring us close to the characters, implying to the audience that they have a level of intimacy between themselves and the main characters.
3) In the third scene where Graham is fishing at the lake, there will be a gradual outward zoom from a close up shot which will come out to show how Graham is exposed in quite open territory. Incorporating David into these shots will be good because the shot will stay close to him, so Graham will appear quite small and David will appear big, implying that Graham is vulnerable.
4) We will try to modify the technique in the fourth scene where Josh is crying cause Garham has been kidnapped in the hope of achieving the same effect. I am considdering the merits of using a contrazoom in order to use a greater range of techinques and also becuase it will draw the focus in on Josh.
5) In the fight scenes I plan to use many different techniques, Josh's fighting style is going to be more technical and advanced than simply taking someone down and kicking them, I would like to choreograph a sequence where Josh and Orcy have a group of people arround them and they are laying into them the camera moving in an arc shot arround the outside of the group, similar to a technique I used in my last film. However I understand that this may be difficult and we may be limited by the time that our actors can give us and also the actual ability of the actors, in which case we will resort to more simple methods.
6) In the chase scene I will at one point in the sequence make use of a low angle shot in order to show Josh and David as really tall implying to the audience the great importance of the chase to the storyline.
7) A close up of Josh pointing a gun will fix Josh in the minds of the audience as the film's main protagonist, also that he is dangerous, during this sequence, the shots we see of Josh will show that his shirt has changed form white to dark blue, showing that he is calm and in control but also indulgent in the dark. Implying that Josh could be an advocate vigilante justice.
8)In the shot of Josh pushing David so that he nearly falls out of the window there will be a mid shot, showing that Josh is directly in control of the situation, then there will be close ups and shot reverse shots of their faces, displaying to people the actors feelings in the situation, and also showing how dangerously close David is to falling.
9) In the shot of David hanging out of the building we are going to use a flash effect and Ahmed will edit in a picture of the actor we choose to play David, so that the audience can see that David is hanging out from a great height, but the flash will conceal that it is a photoshopped picture, because due to our releative inexperience in this field we can't be certain how the picture will turn out, but if it is bad then this will be our option.
10) We hope to simulate someone falling out of the building either like something out of Die Hard 1 where Allan Rickman falls out of the Nakatomi building, either that or Ahmed has suggested that we could use a dummy and basically throw that at the camera, or drop it at it. We have to plan this shot sequence better.
